COURSE CONTENT
This one-day workshop is suitable for the absolute beginner, and for those who have sewn before but who wish to improve skills, brush up on forgotten techniques and become more competent in the craft
Basic Sewing Equipment
Overview of tools and tips required for a professional finish
Hand Stitching Overview
When and where to use hand stitching. Practise how to baste, backstitch, blanket stitch, overcast, herringbone, slipstitch, slip hem and stabstitch. Sew a button on properly!
Machine stitching overview
How to get the best from your sewing machine. Threading, application, care and maintenance. Practise straight stitch and zig-zag on straight runs, curves and corners.
Seam Library
When and where to use various seam types and seam neatening techniques. Practise plain open seam, run and fell seam and French seam.
Fabrics
Choosing and handling fabrics for various applications. Fabric composition and properties.
Project
Each student will create a beautiful, fully lined cotton drawstring bag to take home, together with a collection of samples for reference. All materials are provided and you will be able to choose from a huge selection of fabrics and trims
