This one-day workshop is suitable for students who already have some basic sewing skills, but who wish to make high quality bespoke Roman blinds to a professional standard
Planning and Preparation
Understanding the operation and construction of a Roman blind. Choosing the right fabric, fittings and design.
Fold Calculations
Understanding the implications and effects of standard and cascading folds. Calculating the fold spacing.
Measuring and Cutting
Accurate measurement of window, estimation of fabric quantities and ancillary materials. Accurate measurement and cutting of fabric.
Assembling
Making the lining and rod pockets. Making the fabric side and bottom hems and mitred corners. Joining the lining and main fabric. Attaching the top Velcro.
Hardware and Fixings
Inserting the rods and weight bar, positioning and fixing the cord rings. Headrail options including battens, draw cords and ratchet systems.
Project
Each student will create a sample lined and interlined Roman blind with fixings to take home. All materials are provided and you will be able to choose from a wide selection of fabrics.
